Natalia Camargo Duarte (b. 1996) is a Colombian composer currently based in NYC. With a deep passion for blending the rich tapestry of Latin American traditions with Western musical influences, her work embodies the spirit of multiculturalism. Natalia’s compositions are a vibrant reflection of Colombia’s diverse rhythms and cultural heritage. Her music has been featured in collaborations with esteemed ensembles such as Black Moon Trio, the University of Michigan Philharmonia Orchestra, the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, TorQ Percussion Quartet, Nota Bene ensemble, Tana quartet, and the Colombian ensemble La Sociedad, where her pieces have seen premieres at the contemporary music festival of Bogotá.

Natalia’s talent has also led to commissioned works and performances by leading artists within the University of Michigan, where she has cultivated some of her strongest partnerships and friendships. She has also honed her craft through participating in programs such as the Soundstream RBC emerging composer’s workshop and the International Summer Academy of music ( ISAM).

With a solid foundation, Natalia earned her bachelor’s degree in music composition from Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, where she also completed certificate studies in music for film and music for video games. Her academic journey is supported by the Christine Eve Rinaldo Memorial merit scholarship at the prestigious University of Michigan, where she completed her master’s degree in Music Composition. Throughout her educational and professional career, Natalia has been mentored by distinguished composers educators, and arts leaders such as Evan Chambers, Michael Daugherty, Roshanne Etezady, Aaron Dworkin, Alvin Hill, Guillermo Gaviria, Julian Valdivieso, and Juan Carlos Britto

Natalia’s aspirations go beyond her role as a composer; she’s determined to be a driving force in shaping a brighter future for the arts. Her vision centers on creating opportunities for Latin American artists and initiatives, fostering inclusivity and innovation. To achieve this, she’s committed to building partnerships that enhance connection, recognition, and accessibility for underserved communities, reshaping the arts into an inclusive and enriching experience.

As she continues to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to apply her vision effectively in Latin American contexts, Natalia volunteers with youth orchestras supporting music education for Hispanic communities in NYC. She’s also gaining valuable experience by working as an administrator with prestigious institutions such as Carnegie Hall, the American Composers Orchestra, and the National Sawdust. Natalia’s unwavering dedication is focused on eliminating barriers, fostering artistic vibrancy, and inspiring individuals from all walks of life through the transformative power of art.
